Welcome to Northwest Region of NSTRA

Presidents Message

It has been my pleasure to represent the Northwest Region as their President for the 2008-2009 trial year. It has proven both challenging and rewarding at the same time. I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to the many members of our Region that have put forth the extra effort during a year with such economic strains. I am honored to be part of a Region that's members place the integrity of the sport before their own personal interests. All that aside, I would like to congratulate the following handlers and dogs:

  • Paul Schneider - I have nominated Paul Schneider as the NW Regional Sportsman of the Year. Paul has a great disposition in and out of the field, which proves to enable his ability to be a great role model to many of us.

  • True - handled by Paul McCawley achieved a total of 24 points this trial year, earning HIGH POINT. True is a dog that has proven to be competitive from his first trial. I know personally how much this means to Paul and Nancy and appreciate both their enthusiasm for the sport and good sportsmanship.

  • Nike - handled by Ray Middleton achieved 2nd place at our Regional Trial. Nike is a 4-year-old German Shorthair that has proven you don't need to run multiple trials in order to take a Regional placement. It was an honor running with both Nike and Ray during the last brace.

  • Rueb - handled by Ron Trask achieved 3rd place at our Regional Trial. Rueb has proven that you don't have to be young to take a placement. If all retired dogs could go out with such an achievement at Regional's, I believe that all of us would love to bow out this way. Ron and Rueb were definitely two ol' boys out there having one more good time before retirement.

  • Pacci - handled by Tony Tomeh achieved 4th place at our Regional Trial. Pacci is one of many strong contenders owned by Tony Tomeh. Pacci is a dynamo out on the field with a very competitive edge, just like her owner. Rumor has it, we all will be seeing alot of her next year..... watch out high point.

  • Leon - owned by Barry Wild/handled by Ed Westbrook achieved 5th place at our Regional Trial. Leon is a great dog that proves you don't have to break the bank when looking for a dog to buy. Ed, with the short amount of time he had Leon, proved that his handling skills are fluid. Great Job.

  • Tyson - handled by George Clark achieved 6th place at our Regional Trial. Mentioning retirement earlier.....well apparently, you can pull them from retirement and go out and have a great finish at Regionals. All kidding aside, Tyson has had several great finishes during Regionals and has definitely been a dog to watch out for.

Again, I just want to thank everyone that helped with the Regional Trial this year, making the end result a fun and memorable experience. I would rather not mention names for fear of accidently leaving someone out. There were so many individuals that assisted with this Trial. Thank you, thank you, and thank you. I could not have done it without you.

Mike Stotts

NSTRA is a very fun and competitive sport. We have a great group of people in the Northwest Region. Consider joining us for an upcoming event.

Secretary’s note: In order to save money on printing and postage the NW Region would like to email as many newsletters out as possible. If you have an email address and are able to download a newsletter and not receiving a newsletter by email please contact me.

We have found a wonderful way to conserve gas at our trials - check out our new judge's transportation.
